Ascent Trip ReportThis one I have something interesting to add to the usual reports. Aidan and I spent the morning on Alcatraz Island and the early afternoon at San Francisco Maritime Nat'l Historic Park, earning another Junior Ranger Badge. To reach this high point, we did it completely by public transit and a little walking of course. To get up to the CoHP from the main tourist area downtown or at the SF end of the Golden Gate Bridge, we took the #28 bus to Quintara Street. From 19th & Quintara, we took the #48 bus east to Portola Drive & Teresita Blvd. From here, we could have taken bus #36 right to the main trail to the summit. However, the next #36 bus was going to be a while and we didn't want to just wait in a boring neighborhood, so we followed the streets right up the #36 bus route to the beginning of the trail. A few short minutes later, we were on top. We walked back to Portola Drive again, this time to Portola Dr & Honda Blvd to take the #43 bus to Haight-Ashbury to take cheesy tourist photos of hippies.
