Ascent Trip Report

Another Ontario CoHP, that has to be visited after the harvest. PB lists 4 Candidate High Point Areas, I had to make 2 visits before being successful. On my first visit on 2009-09-02 I only went to Area 1 unsuccessful, the HP was in the middle of a soybean field so I had to turn around.

This part of Ontario is beautiful rich/scenic Farming Land, and on the way to this High Point I couldn't believe my eyes ...... we saw rows of wind turbines on hwy #3 & 401 for about 20km, polluting the scenery. This is probably the tip of the iceberg as I am starting to see these installations all over the place....... I am completely against this "green" bs and the go-along-attitude of the politicians, I remember years ago people complaining about the hydro-electric towers, billboards and signs. Where is this all leading-to?????? Hopefully well get another icestorm real soon ?????? Put these installations in places where we can't see them ??????

The 4 Candidates are located at the Southeast corner of the County. We got off of Hwy 401 at exit 109 and drove south on Victoria Road (#17) for 4.4 km to a left on Moore Road (as Victoria bends to the right), we continued south 1.6 km to a left on Golf Course Line, 3.5 km east to a right on Kenesserie Road, 1.4 km right on Green Road then at .5 km parked the car (just past a wind turbine on the right). This was my TH for Area 4.
AREA 4 ..... 1.3 km RT.
From my TH I walked southeast across the plowed wheat field .6 km to the obvious high ground, I chose my spot at 42.44677,-81.81661. A drainage ditch is just south, in the distance Wind Turbines.
AREA 2 ..... 1.1 km RT
From Area 4 we went back to Kenesserie Road and drove south 3.4 km to a left on Hwy #3, at 1.2 km east parked the car (on the left is a small Cemetery with 4 head stones and a Property-Tree Line running generally north, wind turbines in the distance). This was my TH for the HP to the left.
I walked the Tree Line .5 km to a height-of-land (my eye-level told me that the ground inside the Tree Line contends for the HP). To the east at 50 meters is another high ground on the other side of a depression. I walked there and chose this area as my HP at GPS 42.44072,-81.78028.
AREA 1 ..... 1.8 km RT.
From Area 2 TH we continued east on #3 for .8 km to a left on Palmyra Road, north 2 km to a right on Eberle Line, east .9km to a field access track on the left. We parked the car, this was my TH. The HP is located about .8 km generally south.
Just before the TH, on the right, there is an obscure grassy woods track, once inside the woods it's a good dirt track, winding/heading in the direction of the HP. I walked this track for about .3 km where is veers right, I stayed straight on a herd path to the end of the woods (abt 30m) and the north side of a huge plowed field. Straight ahead (south) in front of you at about .6 km is the visible HP, in the middle of the plowed field .... which of course is only accessible during the off-season.
I walked the plowed corn field directly (140 degree compass) to the HP, chose my spot (after eye-leveling a few bumps) at 42.45416,-81.76849. Wind turbines to the west/south.
AREA 3 .... .25 km RT.
From Area 1 TH we continued east on Eberle Line .5 km to a left on Bury Road, 1.4 km right on Cleeves Line, east 1.1 km to new house #14757 on the left (not yet completed). We were greeted by a large barking dog, tied up. Once I made friends I was able to knock on the door. The lady with a month old baby, wasn't aware of High Points, she gave me permission to walk her back yard.
We parked to the left of the house and walked a grass track to the knoll 100m behind the house, my spot at 42.47983,-81.76842. Ground behind the house at the trees contends for the high ground.
