Ascent Trip ReportThere are 8 Candidate High Point Areas for this County all in the same proximity to each other, making for an easy visit. I have numbered the Areas in accordance with that of PB.
We approached from the south by driving north on M53, east on I69 to exit 176, north on Capac Road for 3.9 miles to a right on Foley Road, east 1.5 miles to Hackman Road on the left. We parked at this corner, the field entrance on the south side of Foley Road, from which we visited Areas 2 to 8 inclusive in order listed below.
I walked back west 200 yards on Foley to house #14323 which sits on a bump on the south side of the Road, I was greeted by a super friendly dog. The young man answering the door allowed me to walk the perimeter of the house.
The present high ground is 10 yards to the west inside the trees.
Located just northeast of 8, difficult to identify due to road/building construction. I walked the high ground on both sides of the road.
The area around the broken down house 50 yards east of 7, on north side of Foley, no one home even though a truck was in the driveway. Rough looking area, nothing obvious.
I am of the opinion the Area 7 & 6 area should be one Area and both are perhaps lower than 8, can't be sure.
Inside the dense brush, northeast of our parking spot, bees hives are to the north.
AREA 4 & 3
Both on obvious looking bumps in the grass field west of Hackman Road. My chose spot for Area 3 was at GPS 43.04328,-82.89988.
From the above parking spot I walked east on Foley 160 yards (just past house #14201), turned left onto the grass track and walked north 130 yards (in beautiful/huge/open, 20 yards wide, line of cedar trees), right 50 yards to the obvious HP, GPS 43.04342,-82.89680.
We drove north on Hackman road .25 miles and parked at mailbox #5140 (on right). I walked west 200 yards across a grass field to the obvious bump just inside the woods, stacks of recently cut fire wood. My spot was at 43.04596,-82.90212.
NB: **** After visiting these Areas. I concluded that
a) Area 4 & 5 are definitely lower in elevation than 3 and should be removed from the list.
b) Area 6 & 7 should be one area.
c) The total number of Candidates for this County should be 5.
When I got back to the car after Area 1 a tractor pulled up with Rick Miers, He wasn't crystal clear but I understood he to be the owner of the land with Areas 1, 3, 4, 6 & 7 (living in the house at Area 6). We had along chat, Apparently a Lansing Man, here 10 years ago, told him that Area 3 was the CoHP, he wasn't aware that there were 8 Candidate Areas. He said that Area 8 is built up ground and not natural.
