Ascent Trip Report

After an early morning ascent of Chiricahua, and with a severe storm forecast the next day, I decided to go for Mount Lemmon as well. The drive across from Chiricahua and up to the top of the Mount Lemmon highway was scenic and ended at the locked gate beside the Iron Door restaurant at the ski centre. From there the road was the only sensible option as the path marked on the map was covered by deep snow. This led easily and quickly to the summit compound (again locked gate). I walked round the fence to look for the benchmark but there was too much snow to find it. Views south to Mount Wrightson were particularly fine. In the West the stormclouds were gathering, and the wind was really getting up by the time I reached my hotel in Tucson.
