Ascent Trip ReportPB list 3 Candidate High Point Areas both at the very southwest corner of the County. I did them in the order entered below.
AREA 2 ..... 700 yards, 25 minutes RT.
From the intersection of Hwy #49 and the Darke-Mercer Co Line Road we drove west on the Co Line Road .43 miles to the long-red storage building on the right, full of farm equipment. There was no one around even though the doors were wide open.
I hiked a grass track north 300 yards to the woods, stomped around in the open woods with some thorny/nasty stuff, and chose my high ground 30-40 yards north of a white shed. Hunters Stand and animal tracks in the area.
AREA 1 ...... 700 yards, 30 minutes RT.
We continued west on the Co Line Road for .5 miles to a right on Jenkins Road, .2 miles north and parked the van. The HP is east at 300+ yards.
I walked 100 yards across a plowed corn field to a patch of woods on the right, then 200 yards along the north side of the woods to its east end.
The PB coordinates puts the spot further on in open plowed field. After looking around the east end of the woods I chose my HP inside at 5 yards, in an area with some blowdown, GPS 40.35463,-84.76310.
It evident that nature/time has way of changing things .... working of the land, water/wind erosion. etc.
AREA 3 ..... 30 yards from the road.
From the corner of Co Line Road and Jenkins Road we continued west on Co Line Road .47 miles to the crest-of-the road, just before house number #743. The HP is on the right (north) in an open-plowed corn field at 30 yards, GPS 40.35303,-84.77579.
