Ascent Trip Report

Following Fred Lobdell's report got me to Va. 18 off I-64. On my map, I noticed a road--fs 204-- that ends closer to the high point (probably within 500 feet) than the route Fred took and I ended up taking. The turn was immediately past the I-64 underpass. It looked promising as I headed upward, but ends at a gated private road , the second time this happened to me in two days. I had the identical experience at the Radford chp yesterday. I guess rich folks like to build high point houses if the microwave folks haven't beaten them to the spot.

So back down to rt. 18 where I took a left on Asbury St. and then the second left on Raymond St. that dead ends at a shack and a gated track with no trespassing signs. However, immediately to the left of the gate is field with a radio tower that is not posted. As I made my way up the field the fence on my right was posted all the way up but not the route I took. At the end of the field I bush whacked into the woods and then ran into the track that was gated below, apparently now crossing into the neighboring property that is not posted. I followed it up finding the USGS benchmark almost exactly at my GPS coordinates for the hp.
