Ascent Trip ReportThis benchmark makes for a pleasant short climb with good views over the Carrizo Badlands. From the town of Ocotillo drive northwest on highway S2 for 11.0 miles. (measured from the junction of S2 with Interstate 8) On the right is a sign at a dirt road leading to the Dolomite Mine. Turn right and drive 0.7 miles to a junction and turn left. At 1.1 miles there is a short, but steep hill that requires a four-wheel drive vehicle. If you can't make this hill park on the left and hike the 0.4 miles to the mine. Those with a four-wheel drive can continue to the mine which is reached after 1.5 miles from S2. You can follow some of the old mine roads on the right side to gain some height. The roads end in a short distance so head generally north up the steep slopes to the broad summit. The benchmark is at the north end. There is a register below the iron disk placed in 1958 by the state. 12/99 RLC
