Ascent Trip ReportA dirt Road walk ..... 1.5 miles, less than an hour RT.
We approached from the south, the Community of Macon. From the junction of 89/107, north of Macon, where 89 turns east we stayed straight on 107 for 1.86 miles to a right turn on Old Hwy 5, then 2 miles to the end of the paved Old Hwy 5 in a valley at an open gate. We parked here, this was my TH.
I walked northwest .15 miles to a sharp right, .13 miles northeast to the top of the ridge where the road turns right (east), .32 miles on the ridge to a north-south swath in the woods which I believe is the Co Line ..... straight ahead at 200 yards is a private house, on the right is a red Fire Hydrant.
I turned left (north) 60 yards to the very top of the east-west ridge, with a new Power Line in a wide right-of-way (presently under construction), my GPS read 35.02326, -92.12119.
I turned right on the flat ridge and walked (the right-of-way and the woods) 150 yards east, before eye-leveling/choosing my spot at GPS 35.02336, -92.12026, 5 yards inside the woods, 80-90 yards east of the North-South Swath (Co Line). I built a cairn and added orange flag tape to the spot.
While I was on the summit the owner of the house on the ridge driving down/stopped to ask Rose if she needed help. He told her that he just found out last year that the CoHP was on his property ..... he is a very friendly guy and its recommended to stop in at the house for permission.
One needs to question the decision to build a Power Line on such a beautiful long ridge.
