Ascent Trip ReportThis CoHP is one those drive-ups with no rewards ..... a long rough looking ridge with numerous Communication Towers, some debris and no views, disappointing. To add some interest to this outing I took-in/recommend the adjacent provisional Peak "Crystal Mountain-Bear Den Mtn Peak", not yet approved by Greg. ...... a short scramble to a super rocky outcrop with 360 degree views, off of Shinall's access Gordon Road (see its TR).
These driving instructions update those in the other TRs. From the intersection of Hwy 10(Cantrell Road) and Chenal Parkway we drove south on Chenal Parkway to the crest-of-the-road at 2 miles to a right on Chenal Valley Drive, .37 miles right on Gordon Road (unsigned) as it winds its way 1.5 miles to the summit.
Note: the TH for "Crystal Mountain-Bear Den Mtn Peak" is .5 miles up Gordon Road on the right, at a 4x4 service road with an orange fiber optic cable post, under the power lines.
The Shinall summit highground is at one side of a small car turn-around with some old foundations, in the woods at its north side, a rough looking area, my spot was at GPS 34.79875, -92.49706. I looked for the BM and other HP evidence with no luck. The access road continues well beyond the summit.
On the drive down I decided to take-in a climb to Crystal Mountain-Bear Den Peak.
