Ascent of Mount Tecumseh on 2012-02-26| Date: | Sunday, February 26, 2012 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Tecumseh | | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | | Elevation: | 4003 ft / 1220 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI took the Mt. Tecumseh Trail from Waterville Valley ski area parking lot to the summit of Tecumseh. I returned the same way, adding an out-and-back along the Sosman Trail to the south peak.
The trail was well broken out and packed, and microspikes worked well on the ascent. I switched to snowshoes near the summit, where I encountered some drifts, and I decided to wear them for the entire descent.
It was a cold sunny day without a cloud in sight. The limited summit views were framed by sunlit snow-covered branches, creating delightful winter scenery. I didn't stay long to enjoy it, as the intense cold wind drove me from the summit after five or ten minutes.
