Ascent Trip Report

I started this hike from a residential street, not realizing there was an actual trailhead with parking down the road. I was trying to climb nearby Black Mountain, which looked taller but closer, so I decided that the peak to the South and further away must actually be Black Mountain, and headed for it.

So I "accidentally" summited the wrong peak, but still had a good time. Came back in darkness without a headlamp, which lead to me not being able to find the faint trail where it leaves the wash. I was forced to follow the wash back to the detention basin, which was full of brush and catclaw, and not much fun in the darkness. As a result of this outing, I bought a headlamp and emergency bivy, and learned to start earlier.

GPS track is reconstructed from later hikes as I didn't have a GPS until May 2011.
