Ascent Trip Report

An easy track walk with some bushwacking ..... .6 miles, 1h00 hours RT for both summits.

This GREGG CoHP is on the east slopes of GOODMAN MOUNTAIN, which is in Smith Co and also not in the PB Library. I decided to visit the summit and added it to PB for Greg's approval. Goodman Mountain is a small mountain but the most prominent in the area.

We got off of I20 at exit 579 (16 miles west on the Longview City Limits) and drove south on Joy Wright Mountain Road (CR3111) for 1.8 miles to a gated right-of-way on both sides of the road "Underground Telephone Cable, Golf South" (this is just past the crest-of-road and about 200 yards before W Goforth Road. We parked here, this was my TH.

I hopped over the gate and walked/climbed the right-of-way eastbound 100 yards to the height-of-land, where a track-swath in the woods on the left, climbs moderately-steep 100 yards to the summit of GOODMAN MOUNTAIN ..... the summit has cleared/flattened, picnic tables to one side, a number of tracks lead to this summit, I chose my HP at the east side GPS 32.41109, -94.98775.

I returned to the right-of-way and continued east (entering Gregg County) for 200 yards to a sharp left on a dirt track which winds/climbs to-and-past the north-south County Line.
I first identified the exact spot of the PB coordinates for GREGG CoHP on the east slopes of Goodman Mountain, then (since I have no way of finding the exact County Line) I walked all around the PB coordinates (fairly open woods) in order to assure myself of the HP.
