Ascent Trip ReportA pasture land walk ..... 600 yards, 20 minutes RT for both Areas.
PB lists 2 Candidate High Point Areas. Bill Jacobs RT of 2002 is a good read even though time as a way of changing things.
In the town of Rusk, intersection of Hwy84/69 we drove south on 69 for 1.7 miles too a left on FM343, .87 miles (past KOA Campground) to the private driveway on the left, mailboxes #985 Fitts and #1075 Ball. (from Bills TR I believe Fitts is the new house on the summit). The driveway is gated but open on this day.
I drove the driveway north (past the Ball house of the left) .25 miles to the house (Fitts) on top of the Area 1 summit. We were greeted by two beautiful dogs, the more friendlier one, a Basset Hound, really liked the fried chicken we gave him. The new house is of "Canadiana Design" one that we are very familiar-with but not in this area of North America. The lady at the door answered before I knocked, "Yes Sure", and closed the door just as quick.
I chose my spot for AREA 1 to the right of the house at a fence line, GPS 31.79542, -95.11227.
For AREA 2, I walked the fence line at Area 1 north about 100 yards to the rear of the property at a 4-way fence intersection with gates. I crawled under the rear fence turned right (east), through an open fence, continuing 100+ yards to another 4-way fence intersection. I hopped over and chose my spot at obvious high ground GPS 31.79645, 95.11070.
