Ascent Trip ReportAn easy road walk ...... .4 miles, 25 minutes RT.
The beautiful Hill Country immediate west of Austin is prime realestate with numerous developments in progress, luckily it hasn't reached Shingle Hills ... yet.
We used Lou Catozzi's excellent directions in his TR of 2001. It's interesting to note that urbanization hasn't changed this area ... everything appears to be as per Lou's Report.
We approached from the east, the town of Bee Cave and intersection Hwy 71/FM620. We traveled west on 71 for 1.18 miles to a left on Hamilton Pool Road (FM3238), 8.4 miles to a gated paved driveway on the right (east), we parked here on FM3238. The property is not posted, across the road is house #20511 and just before is Bell Springs Road.
I stepped over the broken-down fence to one side of the gate and walked/climbed the paved driveway (exactly as shown on topo) to the house trailer. No one home, in fact it appears that the house has either been abandoned or is just a summer retreat ..... evidenced by the road debris, cedar trees overgrown over the driveway and the house's unkept surroundings.
I walked behind the house 100 yards (.2 miles from the road) to the obvious flat wooded bump, very open with no views, I chose my spot at GPS 30.30056, -98.08690.
