Ascent Trip ReportI did a solo hike up Rose Mountain and its two subpeaks, The Pinnacle and Lyndeborough Mountain, on 2/4/2012.
From Lyndeborough Mountain, I turned right onto the snowmobile trail. It went gently downhill and then made a near-180 degree turn, crossing a small stream in the process. After that, the trail climbed to a junction. I turned slightly right for the final trail section to Rose Mountain.
The trail from here was easy to moderate in grade. My foot broke through a half-foot of ice on the way. After that, it turned right and made the final climb to the summit.
Rose Mountain's summit had the best views out of the three peaks. I could see Mount Monadnock, North Pack Monadnock, the Uncanoonucs, Joe English Hill, and other peaks. The summit was marked by cairns and farther away, there was an odd rock wall. I took a water and snack break while taking in the view, and then I called my mother, and after that, went down the way I came for the most part, except that I took the other fork of Helen's Trail.
All in all, it was a good hike. The views were great, and I nabbed three peaks in one hike.
