Ascent Trip ReportThe long hot climb up the road the day before was fun, and we got a sweet campspot above the lake. Dinner and some good rest later we were up early and started the ascent. It was socked in right from the get-go but it was pleasantly cool. We got offtrack a few times on the summit ridge due to the fog and could barely see 10 ft. in front of us when we stumbled onto the summit. What a pity it wasnt clear, I'm sure the view is spectacular. We signed the summit roster and ate some food, fed Kane the dog and tried in vain to take some scenic shots. The weather felt like it was turning so we packed up and headed down.
En route down we saw two young guys just starting their summit bid via the ridge, said hello and started towards Ellingwood point. Those guys must have run up to the summit of Blanca, then sprinted down the ridge since they passed us halfway up the traverse to
Ellingwood.
Taylor told me to go on with the guys but I didnt think the weather was going to hold so she and I rushed back to camp. As soon as we got into the tent the hail started. Big, fat and up to ping pong ball sized. Whew, that was fun!
