Ascent Trip ReportFor the drive in we tried to follow Dennis Poulin's directions, but the part around the aqueduct became confusing. The first part of the drive is clearly visible on google maps. The last part of the drive is clearly visible on the topo maps. The challenge is cutting across (where the aqueduct is crossed). Basically, when you first approach the aqueduct, you want to be on the south side. You then follow the road paralleling it (heading west) until it crosses the aqueduct (north) over a bridge. This then puts you on the road on the topo map. The roads are in relatively decent shape until the end.
For the hike, we followed a track someone had downloaded. It worked OK as an ascent route, but we all agreed we'd rather not descend that way. So for the descent, we tried following the east ridge. It worked out fairly well, but in retrospect, we probably should have stayed higher longer.
Between steep, loose terrain, some class 3 scrambling, some bushwhacking (with plentiful cactus and catsclaw), and avoiding obstacles in our way, this hike was much harder than the numbers would make you think.
