I flew from Sydney to Port Moresby then went on an hour and a half flight from there to Kundiawa. After lunch that day we went in a Toyota Land Cruiser on a two hour ride to Kegsugul. This is the highest inhabited village in Papua New Guinea at 2470 meters (8104 feet). We hiked from the town through the jungle on a muddy trail to a hut at Aunde Lake. This took 4 1/2 hours. The next morning we left at 3:30 AM for the hike to the summit. A sign at the hut said it would take 4 hours, but it took us 5. There was light rain much of the time and fog with no view at the summit. There was a good trail most of the way. We hiked down to the hut and on out that day.
