Ascent Trip ReportEasy to extremely tough bushwack ..... 1 mile, 1 hour for both Areas.
PB lists 2 Candidate High Point Areas for this County. After Colorado Co we drove west on I10, to exit 661 then south on Hwy 95 (through Flatonia) for 2.6 miles to a driveway on the right #1838.
AREA 1 .... drive up. From above driveway #1838 on 95 we went north 100 yards to an open gate on the left that leads west 100 yards to a house on the summit, Communication Tower on the right. No one home, even though a pickup truck sat to one side of the house. I hollered-out (?) for the owners as I walked the back yard looking for my Area 1 spot, none obvious to be found.
AREA 2 ..... .75 miles, 45 minutes RT. .37 miles north of the Area 1 driveway #1838 on Hwy 95 (above) is house #1538 on the left (Vyvjala Street on right). The house sits in a large fenced-in area, we parked on 95 at its south side fence line .... the land here to the west is not fenced and the Area 2 HP is due west at about 600 yards. I walked west in open woods, easy, but after I crossed over a fence at the half way point things got tough ..... the last half is extremely dense full of briars, more so as you get to the HP, I zig-zaged following cow paths as much as possible. Finding my spot at a large tree was no picnic, GPS 29.67038, -97.19999. I came out cut-up pretty good .... above my knees (wore gaiters) and my left arm. Rose wasn't too pleased with me.
We moved south on 95 to Lavaca County.
