Ascent Trip ReportFrom highway 33 turn west toward Fellows on Mocal Road. Stay on this road as it winds through oil fields. At 5.8 miles turn left onto Crocker Springs Road. After 4.3 miles on this road the pavement ends and there is a cattle guard at the county line at 4.75 miles. Go straight here on the middle road of a three-way junction. The road continues uphill. Turn right at a junction after 7.2 miles. UTM here is: 254620E, 3899825W. Four-wheel drive is recommended and the road should not be driven after recent rain. Turn north and follow the road as it goes along the crest of the Temblor Range. At 1.1 miles there is a gate at the top of a steep grade. At 3.0 miles pass a water tank and stay right at a fork. At 4.2 miles there is a gate near a water tank. Open this gate and continue north. I parked at 6.2 miles at the top of a steep grade by two water tanks. The road can be driven a bit further, but we hiked from there. The road we took on the west side goes up a ridge to a locked gate at UTM: 248850E, 3907924N. There is another road shown on the topo more to the northeast which may be open should you try to drive all the way to the summit. The hike from the water tanks was 3.1 miles to the summit on old roads which goes through several dips. 5/02 RLC
