Ascent Trip ReportWheeler is a very popular peak and is climbed most every day in the summer months. There is a good trail starting from a parking area at the entrance to the Upper Campground. This is 12 miles by good paved road from the park entrance. From the parking area the trail to the summit is 4 miles with an elevation gain of 3100 ft. Hiking time is about 2 1/2 hours to the top and allow 2 hours to return. In the late summer months the hike is best done in the morning since thunderclouds with a threat of lightning build up by about noon time. 8/98 RLC
