|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7864 ft / 2396 m|
Ascent Trip ReportTo reach the mountain take highway 50 east from Carson City and then turn north on route 341 to Virginia City. Stay on 341 which is less steep than the old route 342. After 8 miles you reach a stop sign and junction at the south edge of town. Turn left here onto 342 and drive 0.25 miles and turn right (west) onto a paved road which soon turns to dirt. Bear left a short way in and follow along the side of the hill. At 0.6 miles go right and stay on the road called the Ophir Grade. There are some rocky spots and high-clearance is needed. After 3.7 miles come to a broad saddle with several roads branching off. Take the far right-hand road going uphill. At 5.6 miles go left across a small valley. The road then climbs a hill and on the slope at about 6.3 miles turn right up a steep grade. Go over the top of a hill and then descend to a saddle below a radio site up ahead. I suggest parking here since further travel is more rocky. Walk east past the radio site then across a flat area and up the final hill to the peak with its several old iron masts dating to 1878. It is a short hike of about 1/2 mile to the summit. 10/00 RLC
