Ascent Trip Report2nd year in a row I didn't get to the top on my birthday. The night before a storm came through and there was about an inch of snow at the trailhead and everything was very muddy. As I got to the top however, that inch had grown to 6. Mud was turning to ice, and i was the first person to use the trail since the weather. As a result, my crampons were useless as there was no pack. It was very slippery however because of the snow, ice, and mud beneath the snow. As i got about treeline, the summit socked in with clouds. Since I could no longer determine if I was on trail or not, I was alone, and I couldn't even see the summit to get a sense of what direction to go, I turned around. Coming down was treacherous. Maybe next year.
