Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 5th ascent up Woodall Mountain, but it was nice to see that the Highpointers Club was improving the area with such impressive information plaques. The observation tower was removed since the last time I visited the summit. This was my only disappointment. Even though the top of the tower was not open, it was still possible to climb to the top of the stairs and enjoy a fairly good panoramic vista. Without the tower, there are not many openings through the trees to get a summit view, however, the lack of litter that used to cover the area was a big improvement. I was joined by my son, Marshall, who had climbed this highpoint before myself, but we could not pass up the opportunity to visit the highest spot in Mississippi when we were so close to it. We were finishing a short trip to climb the 13 highest named summits in this state. We had a very successful trip and climbed them all in just 2 1/2 days.
