Ascent Trip Report

As far as I can determine, Pine Mountain is the 9th highest named summit in Mississippi. My son, Marshall, and I parked my car near a gate on the NE side of the mountain, which might have been a mistake, because upon our return, a pickup truck stopped and watched us with unfriendly suspicion. I was very glad we were already in my car and ready to leave the area after a successful climb. The ascent was less than 1/4 mile and it quickly led us to an open field with two deer stands and a large deer feeder which I didn't even know was legal. From here we had to bushwhack up a steep tree covered slope to a small summit area with the remains of several footings from the summit tower that once dominated this hill. There was not much of a view through the trees, except to the west, but it was very late in the evening. The sun had already set, so I did not have good conditions to comment much about the summit vista.
