Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Hamer Hill is the 11th highest named summit in Mississippi. During my research, I found another name for this hill on some maps. It is also known as Harper Hill, but the topo map refers to it as Hamer Hill. This small hill is an unimpressive mound covered with a dense forest, but the SW side had an old access road to a communication tower that has long since been removed. I did not feel comfortable driving all the way to the summit because I was in a low-clearance vehicle and the road was not in very good condition. I parked about 1/2 way from the summit and hiked the last few hundred feet with my son, Marshall. The summit was a disappointing littered mess, but we did find two summit benchmarks and an old abandoned building which once probably housed equipment for the removed communication tower. The tree covered summit allowed no views, but it was a very short ascent anyway.
