Ascent Trip ReportAREA 1 ...... Dirt track and woods track north of Hwy 54 ..... .87 miles, 30 minutes RT
From the hwy intersection 13/54 in Delmar we traveled east on 54 for 5.1 miles to a gated dirt road on the left, the whole area is heavily posted by the Kettle Creek Hunt Club. Google Map shows this as spot elevation 62, this was my TH, the gate was open so I took a chance and decided to go for it, luckily all turned out well.
I rushed north up the dirt road to a right at 250 yards, east 200+ yards (pass pond on left) to where the dirt road turns sharply left. I stayed straight (east) on a woods track between 2 straight rows of evergreens trees for 200+ yards to definite high ground. I stomped-around-some before choosing my most natural HP at GPS 38.45496, -75.45960.
Note that this whole area was planted years ago and is now a mature forest.
AREAS 2, 3 and 4 ..... 1 mile, 45 minutes RT.
From Area 1 TH we continued east on 54 for 1.5 miles to a left on State Line Ranch Road, at the very east end of the large horse farm "Mid Atlantic Trotting Center Ltd" (large open area with homes, barns, oval track, white fences, ponds, etc.). We drove in to the first house for permission to access their property, the lady with 3 small dogs had no problem as long as we stayed out of the fenced areas with horses. The fact that we were Canadians and her daughter lived in the same city, Ottawa, as our daughter, made for a much friendlier discussion.
I walked around the east end of the open field, to AREA 2 and 3, due east of the house and with 3 obvious bumps all inside the white fence. I chose my spot for AREA 2 on the western bump at GPS 38.45560, -75.43665.
The other 2 bumps contend for AREA 3 .... I chose my spot for the middle bump at GPS 38. 45569, -75.43608, and the eastern bump at 38.45614, -75.43584.
AREA 4 .... I walked along the edge of the field to its northeast corner where I entered the thick woods (full of extremely thorny vines) at the broken fence and bushwacked east, really bad stuff. I chose a spot beside a woods track about 75 yards from the field at an obvious bump, GPS 38.45698, -75.43484.
From here we moved on south to Wicomico County HP in MD.
