Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Lebanon Mountain is the 2nd highest named summit point in Mississippi. Access issues were a big problem on most of the state highpoints my son, Marshall, and I climbed during this trip, but fortunately, we found a friendly woman who gave us permission to park and hike less than 1/2 mile on ATV trails to the east side of the mountain. From there it was a steep climb through an easily passable forest to the summit. The top of Lebanon Mountain was a pleasant surprise with two benchmarks on an open flat area complete with an observation deck extending off the south side of the mountain. The looks of the summit gave us the impression that there was a public access route up Lebanon Mountain, but we did not use that approach. The forested summit perimeter prevented a panoramic vista, except to the south on the observation deck where there was an opening in the trees. This highpoint would make a fun outting for any outdoor loving family.
