Ascent Trip ReportThis is not a good mountain to visit during the long Mississippi deer hunting season, but that is what my son, Marshall, and I unknowingly did in early January. We tried to access the summit from the west side first, but we were discouraged by a set of posted signs indicating this area was for the use of "P & L Hunting Club members only." Luckly, we discovered a friendly hunter sitting in a pickup who told us we could reach the summit on the east side of the mountain through a gate that was usually left open. When we arrived at that gate, we were disappointed to find a posted sign located there as well. We felt, however, that we had been given some degree of permission to travel on the property from the hunter, so we proceeded despite the posted signs. There are three closed 600 foot contour lines on Terrapin Mountain, but it was evident to us that the middle summit was the highest. Unfortunately, this spot was in front of a large hunter's camp and several people were present. No one questioned our reason for being there, however, so we quickly took our summit photos on all three of Terrapin Mountain's highpoints and left.
