Ascent of East Peak on 2011-12-29| Other People: | Solo Ascent Only Party on Mountain | | Date: | Thursday, December 29, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | East Peak | | Location: | USA-Nevada | | Elevation: | 9591 ft / 2923 m |
Ascent Trip ReportSkiied two days in marginal conditions (no snow), so I decided to do a training climb up under the Gondola. It is steeper than it appears from riding up to ski! No real trail, but many drainage chutes to chose from. A little snow and crampons would have beeen ideal as there is some loose scree to deal with without cover. A side trail a third of the way up (around tower 14) leads E to a nice waterfall, and W to a subdivision that would reduce the travel through the shopping district. The trail under towers 15-18 was a little rough, particularly on the way back down. At the saddle a jeep trail leads over to the East and the summit.
