Ascent Trip Reportthis was the first hike of 2012, i am not sure about this one how to put it... it was a interesting hike, we started at the base of the mountain trail. we started the beginning of out hike and ended up n a different trail, and came to a logging road and continued that for a while eventually we found our way back to the trail, bushwhacking our way threw the woods. we continued out trek up the mountain trail. it was pretty level the whole about 3 miles until a junction that lead you to the peak. we started our accent when my crampon broke... great no poles and one crampon things started to get a little dicey. we had made our way up the side of the trail and eventually to the mountain top. we didn't stay to long at the top, sure the top is wooded but all around the mountain and sub peaks (or at least we think they were sub peaks). there were terrific views, we are talking 270 degree views. so it is not a waste of a trip. it was a gradual incline there was some steep parts of the mountain so i wouldn't advise this mountain for younger kids. i would say this hike is for mid hikers, it was awesome to climb and i would love to do it again. take it easy and pack a trail map. that's for sure plenty of water and follow the signs and do not go to the square ridge. its way off the map so i advise you to stick to the trail. we made our way down in the dark and eventually made it to the car.
