Ascent Trip Report

To start with, getting to this "trailhead" is difficult- roads on the topographic or Google maps don't exist (at least not in their entirety). Use satellite images to see what roads exist and where they are. Given the roads aren't on any map, they were in surprisingly good shape (they get bad enough to dissuade most passenger cars, but are mild by high-clearance standards). We could have driven a little further, but we did want some exercise.

I tried the southeast ridge before and really liked it (see earlier trip report), so I wanted to introduce some friends to it.

On the way down we descended into the canyon north of the ridge. It offered great views of rock pinnacles that were not (easily?) visible from the ridge. That said, the terrain wasn't great- a lot of steep, loose class 2. Once down in the bottom of the canyon, the canyon got brushy, and after a while it was so bad we needed to climb out of it for a short stretch. Once past that though, it was easy going back to our "trailhead".
