Ascent Trip Report

Probably should have gotten an earlier start, parked at the garden lot and headed up to the interior outpost, I made good time doing so in 1.5hrs. from there I took the bridge over to the range trail heading up to meet up with the yellow trail towards the col. Making it to the leanto I crossed the new slide and was in awe by the size of it. At this point it is noon and I still have a mile and a half and 2000ft to go. At my pace it would probably take me about 2hrs to climb. Having already hiked 2.5hrs, with legs and feet starting to hurt I decided to bail as the remaining total hike time would be, at best, almost 6hrs. The return to the car only reinforced my decision to bail, feet were kind of aching from the microspikes and I was feeling it, so I dialed the pace back a bit and cruised into the garden. I saw only 5 people all day and they were at the start by the lot on their way out from having spent a cold night out, the rest of the day was really quiet. I saw that only 3 other people had signed into the register all day and they went to Porter or Brothers. Weird being in such a big area when I know how many people are usually here in the good weather. It's so different in the winter.
