Ascent Trip Report

The route up was easy and fun! We opted NOT to take the Loon route and instead explored the west face of Black Mountain and found the off-piste ski trails there. They ranged from intermediate to a killer cliff that had a very narrow pass that an expert skier could thread their way down. There is some serious skiing terrain in that spot - worth a revisit (with skis)! Anyway we found the mythical magic line (I say this because the way was practically wide open) and ascended southeast up to 3700 with no difficulty. One of the dogs on the trip became unable to walk and thus very, very cold. We evacuated the dog without tagging the summit a decision that I do not in any way regret. We used the ski lift on Loon to download the injured dog and his owner, while Dave and I jogged down the ski trails to the bottom (this part was a ton of fun and reminds me why I relish steep snowy descents so much!!)
