Ascent Trip ReportFun hike from the Dunnfield parking lot. Hiked up the Appalachian Trail to Sunfish Pond, kept to the south of Sunfish on the Sunfish fire road. Got to the Yards Creek reservoir and followed the fence to the north high point. Added a rock to the cairn, and then tried to bushwack to the southern high point. Even with the rhododendron and briars way back due to the lateness of the season, this was a horror. 40 minutes later, I was back on good trail, and was down in a total of 4 hours, 20 minutes. Probably 10 miles all told.
Best line of the day; nearing the Dunnfield lot around 3, a young couple asked me for directions to the top of Mount Tammany. He actually had two printed pages of the local trails. I told him the best way up, and he responded: "So, I just follow these white blazes all the way up?" I said: "Son, you follow those white blazes all the way, you are going to end up in Maine. This is the Appalachian Trail."
