Ascent Trip Report

Camped overnight at the ADK Loj Campground. Our intention was to climb Mt. Marcy but we would have needed to leave the Loj at about 5am in the morninng in order to optimize the daylight for the steeper parts of the trail. When we woke up it was still raining fairly hard. We decided to skip Mt. Marcy and went back to sleep. When we woke up after dawn, the rain had let up drastically so we decided to do Phelps instead. My wife, Peggy, had already done Phelps but my daughter and I had not done it yet so off we went. We made good time up to the Phelps trail turn off. At that time my wife was having a splitting headache (which turned out to be a lack of Caffeine headache) so she stayed at the junction while my daughter and I continued up to the summit. We stayed at the summit for only about 10 minutes to rest up then headed back down to the junction to meet back up with my wife. After joining back up, we all headed back to the Loj Campground, making it back by 3:30 pm or so.
