Ascent Trip Report

After hiking to Holt Peak, my Dad and I hiked to Burton Peak.

After leaving Holt Peak, the trail descended steeply for a few minutes, and then became more up and down. It passed by a few stone walls while sometimes crossing them. The only real view of the entire hike (besides the view of Pack Monadnock at the very end) was Mount Monadnock rising above the fog. There was a sign pointing to a lookout, but we didn't go to it because we couldn't see anything.

Later on, I noticed a sign saying that the next 2.2 miles of the trail were named after someone whose name I can't remember. Shortly after that, we reached Burton Peak, marked by a sign similar to the sign marking Holt Peak.

There was a short path that led to a rock with a date from the 1800s carved in it. Across from that, I saw a viewpoint that revealed a good view of Mount Monadnock. We took a long break here, and then we went back to check out the north peak and go to my truck.
