Ascent Trip ReportIf you want to introduce someone to the joys of hiking, Round Bald is a great place to start. It's only 0.6 miles from Carvers Gap on a well-graded section of the Appalachian Trail that's meticulously maintained by the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoe Club. The climb is 314 feet, based on the summit sign that says 5826. Lots of families come here to picnic and fly kites, as do young lovers to watch the sunset.
Round Bald is also the first summit on the 4.6-mile round-trip hike to Grassy Ridge Bald.
