Ascent Trip Report

I had to make 2 trips to the Woodchuck Hill Ridge in order to bags the 2 peaks listed in PB. On my first visit I wasn't aware the I needed the EAST PEAK.

An easy ATV track/bushwack southwest bound from Jones Hill Road ..... .8 miles, 40 minutes RT for both peaks.

I decided to go with the route that Michael Schwartz suggests in the last paragraph of his 2010 TR, from the northeast side .... it turned out to be an excellent easy route.

On my first visit we came from the Otsego County HP. We found our way south on hwy 10 to the Village of Jefferson's main intersection, hwy 10/2, where we stayed straight (south) on CR 42(Peck Street) for .25 miles to a left on Potter Hill Road (which become Mountain Jefferson Road as you cross Tompkins Hill Road), at .75 miles from CR42 we made another left on Jones Hill Road (an unsigned seasonal dirt road), then .75 miles to the crest of the road where we parked the van, this was my TH. The hiking trail is the ATV track on the right, 20 yards past the crest of the road .... unfortunately cabled-off with posted signs on my second visit.

I ascended the ATV track southwest 250 yards where it jogs right 50 yards before continuing southwest another 150 yards to the ridge .... where the track goes left & right, I turning right and immediately to the left at 20 yards is a small bump.
This is WOODCHUCK HILL-EAST PEAK. I chose the HP for this bump towards its west end at GPS 42.46170,-74.60155.

WOODCHUCK HILL. I followed the ridge westbound a few hundred yards to the high ground, all open deciduous, easy going. The HP is somewhat obvious, I estimate the one way distance from the TH at .4 miles. I chose to go another 100 yards further on before coming back to my chosen spot at GPS 42.46220, -74.60299. I don't know if this summit has a BM, my attempt to find one was for-not.

ADDENDUM DATED 2014-04-06.
I required the WOODCHUCK HILL-EAST PEAK for my list "NORTHEAST USA TRIPLE DIVIDE POINTS", reason for today's second visit.
For clarity purposes I amended the above TR accordingly.
