Ascent Trip Report

Heading south on Pa. 381, I took a sharp left just north of the village of Ohiopyle. My map gives multiple names for various parts of this road--King, Burnsworth, Sr 2017. In slightly over 5 mi. and slightly less than a mile north of the peak I turned right on a narrow blacktop, Augustine Rd., that becomes a dirt track after the last house. At 0.4 mi. south of SR2017 I parked by a gated forest road. It winds uphill to a point about 400 feet north of the high point. I bushwhacked from there. Just before what appears to be the high point I discovered an imposing rock as big as a house. It looked like a difficult climb, and I was by myself and not eager to scale it without anyone to spot for me. My GPS altimeter gave an elevation on the highest rocks north of this giant rock slightly over 30 feet higher than the base of the giant rock, and sighting from that spot the top of the giant rock looked several feet lower to me. but I'd have to say I'm not 100% certain about that.
