Ascent Trip ReportThis is a drive up to a flat/asphalted summit area. Who would have thunk-it to find a drive up in northern Ontario.
From Renfrew, west of Ottawa, Rose and I found our way to the Community of Foymount ..... large sign on the hwy #512 entrance reads "Foymount, Pine Tree Line Site #C-3, 1952-74, North America Air Defense System". The MapArt Ontario Road Atlas names Foymount as being the Highest Settlement in Southern Ontario.
We turned onto Sebastopol Drive and drove/ascended southbound for .7km to a right turn on Lawrence Road, then .3km to the summit.
This summit was graded/leveled and asphalted, guard rails installed, my not-too-reliable eye level told me that it's pretty flat. Today the summit is capped with 5 Communication Towers and a number of small service buildings. The area is rough looking from the lack of use, the pavement is broken/overgrown with vegetation in places. It looks like an old parking lot.
I walked the area and none of the high spots appear to be natural. I found the surface of solid rock above the pavement amid a few saplings and grass, 20 meters southwest of the east Tower, I chose this as my natural HP, GPS 45.43045, -77.30452.
We were paid a visit by a brief snow showers that left us as quick as it came, a notice that winter is just around the corner.
