Ascent Trip Report

This peak was not shown as one that folks attempt to grab even though it is one of the highest in SC. It is in easy striking distance of Sassafras Mountain off of the Foothills Trail by either heading west from Pinnacle Mtn or east from Sassafras. I decided to stretch my hike out and bag it from the east after the state HP.

There is a really interesting feature off the right of the trail where someone has dissassembled an old rock structure in the woods and constructed a ring of chairs out of huge building stones around a camp fire. Worth checking out. Nearing the mountain, there is too many Rhododendrons to attack the bushwhack from the Sassafras side. So I circled around where the trail began heading east and found a side of the ridge that was deciduous trees and followed the spine up to the peak and tied a few orange and black stripped flags along the way and at the summit tree.

No real views. Too many trees even with the leaves gone. Just a nice hike in the woods to the top of another above 3,400 feet.
