Ascent of South Carter Mountain on 2011-11-05| Others in Party: | Stéphanie Beauregard Éric Deschênes | | Date: | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | South Carter Mountain | | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | | Elevation: | 4420 ft / 1347 m |
Ascent Trip ReportFrom the col between Middle and South Carter Mountains, it was an easy task to reach South Carter. It was very flat with no ups and downs as we had seen earlier in the day. It took us no more than 20 minutes and we were surprised how quickly we reached it. The summit was a nondescript bump under the treeline with no views but the sun was giving it a eerie look coming down very low between the trees.
We stopped for water but kept going to reach Zeta Pass as quickly as possible. It was now 4:25pm. The way from there was still very easy but we were starting to be overcome by fatigue. Still, we made it to Zeta pass in 20 minutes, at 4:45pm. We decided to take a break here before the last upwards pitch and ate some snacks.
