Ascent Trip ReportFollowing our previous day's struggle through the Carter range, Éric and Stéphanie decided to take it easy and hike out by the 19 miles brook trail while I would hike over the Wildcat range and meet them at Pinkham Notch after they went to retrieve the car in Gorham.
We woke up around 7:00am and went to the main hut to eat breakfast. Everybody was still mostly asleep but it quickly filled. We then went back to prepare our stuff while the sun was rising over the valley. It was bright and warmer than the day before outside. Soon we were ready to leave and went to thank the caretaker before heading out at 8:15am.
After a few hundred meters, I split from my partners along the wildcat range trail. Going uphill was quite easy with few ice patches. I was the first up this side but the trail was well worn in. It wasn't long that the grade leveled off and I reached an open spot from where I could see the hut. The GPS showed me I was at the summit. It was now 8:50am. I had made it up very quickly and now it was only a matter of hiking the range over slight bumps and then back down to highway 16.
From where I was, the grade became very easy descending towards the col that I passed without noticing.
