Ascent Trip Report

Left the Garden at about 9AM, saw some wild turkeys in the trail. Weather was supposed to be sunny, but small hail was falling instead. Took Ore Bed Trail, amazing after-effects of Hurricane Irene on the slide near the top. Slide was very icy, slipped even with microspikes. Summit was frigid and windy and a white out when I arrived, fortunately after eating lunch, the clouds cleared enough for a fine view and some pictures. Started to hail lightly on the descent via Ore Bed trail to DEC Outpost. Last 3 miles to the TH seemed to last forever. Arrived back at Garden around 4:30PM. 7 1/2 Hrs with over an hour on the summit. Weather was mediocre but the hike was still a great time in the woods.
