Ascent Trip ReportI finally found the White Dot Trail this time! Its trailhead is located on Mountain Rd, across from a small parking area. The trail is easy to miss, so if you reach a much larger parking area with a kiosk and view, you've gone too far.
My power was out during the winter storm that hit NH and the northeastern U.S., and I was very bored. My dad wanted to get out, and so did I, so we eventually decided to hike North Uncanoonuc, a peak that I've mostly hiked with friends in 2011. I decided to take the White Dot Trail for a change, as I finally figured out where the trailhead was. The parking area wasn't plowed, so I parked perpendicular to it off the road.
The trail was very slippery because of wet snow that had fallen during 10/29/11 and 10/30/11. It was kind of steep, but it was easy to ascend. It wound up the mountain and reach a cave-like thing with a stone wall going along it. After that, the trail became a little more varied in grade. There were some parts that were particularly tricky to traverse, which I didn't look forward to when I got ready to go back down. After a while, the trail got more level and the snow was deeper, with a narrow path broken into the snow leading all the way to the summit.
At the summit, the snow path intersected with several other paths, including one that led to the South Uncanoonuc viewpoint, which we took. I had trouble finding a place to eat and drink water, and eventually I cleared snow off a rock and sat on my gloves. I got some video and pictures and very carefully descended the White Dot Trail to my truck.
