Ascent Trip ReportI finally found the perfect time, weather, and companion to do this near drive-up of Siegel followed by Galena and Oreana. I approached Siegel from the west. First I met up with Al and then we drove a short ways down Hwy 395 to Pine Nut Road. This is south of Gardnerville and there is a signal at the intersection. Turn east on Pine Nut Road, zero your odometer and at 1.8 miles turn left on Pine Nut Road. The right fork goes to the city dump. At 3.8 miles the pavement ends and take the right fork. At 6.9 miles take the right fork at a rusty old water tank, at 7.7 miles stay straight, and at 9.2 miles turn left and cross the live creek. At 9.4 miles take the left fork, at 13.7 miles go straight across a saddle, at 13.9 miles cross a dry creek bed, at 16.1 miles take the left fork, and at 17.3 miles turn left. At this point I needed to shift into 4WD to climb the hill and to avoid the large loose rocks in the road. I climbed up another 0.9 miles to a saddle at 9,300 ft and parked.
It is just a short hike north up to the summit of Siegel from where I parked. After hiking Siegel I hiked south to the summit of Galena Pk about .6 mile away. After returning from the short Galena Pk, I drove back down the 0.9 miles turned right and in 0.3 miles I took the left fork towards Oreana Pk. I drove nearly to the summit of this one also.
Great views from all 3 peaks.
