Ascent Trip Report

Weather was overcast as we arrived at the ADK Loj. As we were starting out, the rain started. We made good time to Marcy Dam with light rain the whole way. As we started up the Avalanche Pass Trail, the rain slowly tapered off. By the time we reached Lake Arnold, the rain had stopped, but Mt. Colden was hidden inside the clouds. That didn't deter us though. After a short break at the Lake talking with a group of backpackers we headed upwards. We got a little confused when we reached the false summit but soon picked up the correct trail off the side of it and continued to the summit. Found a nice rock outcropping to rest on right before the red trail marker indicating the start of the trail down to Lake Colden. After sitting there a few minutes the clouds started to break up and we had GREAT views of the MacIntyre Range to the west! We headed back down the way we came and finally got back to the Loj about 12.5 hours after we started that morning. Overall a great day, even with the rain in the morning.
