Ascent Trip ReportMt. Grant was open for the first time in 10 years on 9/11/2011 for the Mount Grant Memorial Challenge, and son Eric and I were going to the top as the first peak in a week of Nevada 11,000'+ peaks. Unfortunately, on 9/4 I dislocated my left knee and tore the MCL in a road bicycle fall, resulting in a knee swollen to a size only slightly smaller than my head. We decided to do Mt. Grant anyway, as one can drive to about 11,000 feet, and the race organizers put Eric and I on the support crew, in charge of checkpoint 2. After our checkpoint duties were over we drove to 11,000' and I drug myself the additional 280' to the top, with my left leg in a cast, my only 11,000'+ peak of 2011. Many thanks to all the wonderful people who planned and staffed this event and to Eric for putting up with my whining all weekend!
