Ascent of Ellingwood Point on 2007-08-04
|Date:||Saturday, August 4, 2007|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||14042 ft / 4280 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked in to Lake Como the day before, starting at around 1 PM and arriving and setting up my tent around 6 PM, just before the rain started. Mosquitos there were horrendous. Started up around 6:30 the next morning, reaching the top of Blanca around 9:45, and then taking the class 3 ridge (easier to me than the loose class 2 talus below) over to Ellingwood Point. On the way down Ellingwood I think I missed the "normal" descent, and ended up on some loose talus. Passing the "red mine hole" and skirting a small remaining snow field I rejoined the trail and then the jeep road, and hhiked out to the 8000 foot trail head by around 3 PM.
